Spiritual Narcissism? What, you've never heard of it?
Well, it is out there and a HUGE problem in many of our communities. The biggest problem we have is admitting when we are being utterly selfish.
It is also the single biggest contributing factor to keeping our parishes isolated and unable to welcome and heal addicts who may come to us. Those with real sobriety can smell Spiritual Narcissism a mile away. Yes, there are plenty who learn to hold their breathes while standing in church just to get close to God, but they have to do so without getting overwhelmed by our selfishness.
